I first came up with the idea for Filament Paper Co through youtube. I discovered a huge community that called themselves the “planner community.” There were two things that they all did--The Erin Condren Vertical Life Planner, and they used stickers from different shops on Etsy. The stickers were made specifically for this planner. I thought that was such a niche that didn’t fit all lifestyles (not everyone can afford a 50.00 planner, the Erin Condren isn’t functional for a lot of peoples lifestyles, and a lot of what these “planners” were doing with these stickers was not really planning, but just showcasing pretty stickers—which isn’t a bad thing.) But personally, I wanted something more functional rather than pretty.
That’s when I started a bullet journal, this is a way of planning that all you really need for is a notebook and a pen. It’s a very broad way of planning, not limited by space refinements and different pages—you create your own pages. (see more on bullet journaling here) This way of planning is functional, and can be pretty, but only with a lot of work. I was drawing a lot of boxes, and it would take upwards of 30 minutes to create my weekly plan. So I decided to go back to this planner community and see how I can implement these beautiful planner stickers into my own personal planning.
When I went to look at these etsy shops, I noticed a pretty defined gap. Everything was made for the life planner. Although I could get a few that I could use in my own bullet journal, none would do exactly what I wanted. This kind of birthed the idea for this entire thing. Not only is this a good thing for me, but it can be incredibly customizable for anyone who just has a notebook and pen lying around.
I wanted to make sure there was custom art in these sticker designs, so I went to my digital artist and incredibly talented friend Jacob Adams, who does all of the character/object art in the stickers. You can buy his art individually as stickers or prints but they are also included in all of our collaboration kits.
Along with stickers, Filament Paper Co. will also be doing other products like mugs, t-shirts, pillows and wall decor signs. Take a look at our New Releases Page to see the latest in all the planner stickers, and what else will be launching with these stickers.
